So I figured my first post should explain the intentions for this blog. My first idea was to write original, detail oriented articles and tutorials. However, currently, I just don’t have the time to write. So the revised plan is to post helpful resources for newbies to the mid level web devigners. You won’t see anything super ground breaking but my hope is create a library of links to helpful sites.

“So what the hell is a Devigner and what makes you one”?

A web devigner is basically the combination of developer and designer (Devigner = Developer + Designer). A devigner will find themselves one day using PhotoShop to design a website and the next day hand coding your website in PHP. I am definitely not the person who coined this term. I personally heard the term at the 2008 Adobe AIR bus tour stop in Denver, CO. Lee Brimelow (who has to be the most down-to-earth evangelist out there) mentioned the term devigner, however it didn’t sound like he was a huge fan of the word. I have also heard that Ryan Stewart might have coined the term.

Well, I own Variant Studios a small website design & development company in Greeley, CO. We have been in business since 2001 however this is not a company blog. I am also an instructor at Aims Community College, where I teach website design (using Adobe Dreamweaver) and Adobe Flash. Phil (my follow co-worker at Variant Studios, who specializes in Drupal) and I have had the pleasure of taking in interns from Aims and the University of Northern Colorado. These experiences have helped us understand the need for a place to inform fellow web devigners.
